Hotel Maya, a Belizean owned hotel became a reality in May 1980. The owner Rosita May acknowledges her parents Jose May and Rosenda Carillo May for their inspiration, commitment to development and discipline in work that is her bedrock today. Her business skills developed from an early age selling and accounting for the sales monies of the delicious authentic local foods prepared by her parents. She catered not only to her small community but travelled to the Libertad Sugar Factory on the cane trucks to sell. The business landscape changed for her here, where she had to compete with much older and established food vendors. With the conviction that her mother’s special input and soul were in every bite of the food she was selling she did not fear nor fail. At a very early age, Rosita learned to compete and stay Standing.
